PS: Nothing is happening in my family. I repeat, NOTHING.
I'm referring to someone who has it really far worser than me.

Edit2:

I shall apologise.
I hereby apologise to the victim, Miss Tsan Sze Ling, for being such a conceited, self-centered(?) girl.
Please accept my apology. Thank you.

In case you can't think of any, ONE good thing did arise from this class blog - the words posted here would stay for an indefinite period of time. And for as long as these words remain, and for as long as you can remember them, they are long term reminders for us to reflect upon certain things in life.

These words from Sze Ling had a true impact on me:
~ I know how everyone will think of me after this post, that I am someone so petty who cannot take any jokes or whatever. But, if you really knew how my life goes, you'd be very happy it's not happening to you.~

Would you want to be in her shoes to know how it's like in her family?
Do you think you can show more emphathy?

A bitter person often has baggages which stem from some negative experiences. Try as SL might, these baggages may sometimes manifest themselves through some undesirable behaviour. If you don't mind being her friend, you can perhaps learn to understand, then encourage, then advise. Things may take a positive change, albeit not overnight.

Contrastingly, a person who leads a smooth sailing life with hardly any adverse (negative) experiences may become increasingly detached with his/her sense of emphathy. Understanding others may become a difficult thing to do, let alone responding with tact.

I'm reminded not to fall under the two extremes.

A good lesson for me indeed.

Yours truly!

I spent quite some time surfing the net regarding the hydrilla-funnel-test tube setup (which aims to test for the presence of oxygen released during photosynthesis).

Remember? I wasn't sure whether the water in the test tube should cover the mouth of the funnel.

I'm very certain now that the funnel mouth has to be filled with water in the test tube.

The setup MUST look like this, as in the ones shown in your Prelim Science paper.

I gathered the following information:
  • The oxygen produced through photosynthesis would appear as bubbles in the water.
  • These bubbles would then float up through the funnel and test tube.
  • The bubbles would break at the water surface to release the oxygen, thereby displacing the water in the test tube (that's why the water level in the test tube should DECREASE) and causing the gas column in the test tube to INCREASE in length.

Hope there are no more doubts henceforth.

For an animated version of the experiment, click on the following link:

How am I supposed to be 相亲相爱 towards Ping, when she's forever accusing me of all sorts of things? Sure, you can be playful in the sense that you keep saying stuff about Tell-Me-Guy and claiming stuff like I love you (which I don't, because I can't, not even as a friend). I guess it's only fair you do so since I also do so to you. But please don't take things too far, persisting again and again. I don't care if TMG really likes me or not, but stop saying stuff like what you did in the last few posts.

I don't know how to say this without being snide/rude to you, and Ms Chan has already put it across that we shouldn't be writing messages that are snide/rude. Your limit might be further than mine, but every individual is a different person. You might be able to tolerate what I say, that you adore me and whatnot. And so can I, but as I said before, don't take it so far.

Stop trying to make it sound like you're the best in the world, because in your world, you might be, but in actual fact you aren't really. I'm sure others will not agree with me about what I think of you, but I think you're a conceited person whenever you start saying I love/adore/like you. There's a thin line between being playful, and pushing it too far.

Ping, you can be quite a decent person at times, but it seems you don't understand when is too much. Why else do you think I actually went to bed yesterday? Because I had to?

While this might seem evil of me (yes, I know many think I'm evil), I cannot take it any further.

I know how everyone will think of me after this post, that I am someone so petty who cannot take any jokes or whatever. But, if you really knew how my life goes, you'd be very happy it's not happening to you.

Thoughts I shouldn't be thinking pop into my head, and it is difficult enough trying to seem normal and happy in school, when generally I am not.

Anyway, I hope you understand, Ping. This is not meant at insulting you or anything, but just to tell you that you've crossed the line.

Szeling.

Seeds take in water and air (oxygen) through their seed coats.
Some seeds are not able to germinate because they are unfortunate enough to be 'born' with a handicap known as impermeable seed coats. Their impermeable seed coats prevent the absorption of oxygen, so they'll never ever germinate. These are what we call 'bad seeds' in casual terms.

I needed a breather in the afternoon so I headed to the Botanic Gardens.
Boring place you might say, but I left the garden feeling more uplifted.

The first mobile living thing which greeted me was this dog of mix breed ('chihuahua + ???). You wouldn't have thought that this sweet and lively thing was abandoned by her former owners and residing at SPCA. She's now a happy dog in a warm-hearted caucasian family. For all you animal lovers out there who intend to 'buy' a pet, please go adopt one instead. There are plenty at SPCA and they're waiting for a responsible owner to care for them.

Shortly after I let this dog down, a huge and handsome Golden Retriever was at my feet, trying to be friendly with this little one. No barks. Just happy wagging of tails and exchange of friendly kisses ;) Lovely sight.

My pic with the big dog was too dark so I'm not posting it.

Couple of minutes later, I was greeted by a white furry ball of energy. This maltese was wearing nice comfy walking shoes, mind you. By the time I noticed her pretty shoes, she had walked away. No pics for you!

Near a pond were two pink dragonflies playing around. This beautiful one stopped for a rest and my phone was only mere 5 cm above it. Snapped, and here you see it. How often do you see a pink dragonfly?
I saw a matching blue one at the lake after that but it's too camera shy. Missed it!

After dragonflies came dragon fruits. The fruit is forming...now we're just waiting for the petals on its flowers to wilt. Remember to learn the process ah! Don't say I didn't remind you.

This big grasshopper looks rather matching on the heliconia flower it's resting on. But if it hops at me, I'll scream my lungs off...

Terrapins basking in the sun on a lazy afternoon.
No stress... no fear of skin cancer also haha

These swans and ducks were feasting on my bread treats. Scrumptious...

Remember aerial roots? They're roots which grow downwards from the stem to the ground, capable of asorbing water directly from the air. And when they finally reach the ground, they serve as firm additional support for the plant.
I saw an interesting tree after that - the monkey pot tree. Its fruit is truly amazing. It looks like a pot! There were many pots hung high up there. I couldn't take a photo because they looked too small on camera.
These pot-like fruits have lids! One of the lids fell from the tree. I wanted to bring it back to class but it had some ants crawling on it. Before I could take a pic, it started to pour. I had to run...

Didn't know the food served at Sunset Way Chin Huat tastes so good.
The dinner was scrumptious and the dishes were pretty unique.
Not the typical ones in restaurants.
The first cold dish was a delicious start but my favourite is the one with yam balls stuffed with scallop...sweet yam stuffed with savoury scallop makes a great gastronomic experience.
Before that was a meat dish...unbelievably, all the teachers at my table mistook the meat for pork and I was like...'Wow, I didn't know pork can be so well done.'...and continued devouring a few more slices, only to realise after I reached home that it had been smoked duck.
We enquired and found out that a 2-person set dinner there costs a whopping $128!
Kim Yao suggested that I visit Marc.
But I'm surely not welcomed for obvious reasons.

Thanks Olivia and Clarice for the food you made!
Yummy ;)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the pleasant surprise in class this morning...the hand-made cards, notes, crafts, jelly, cookies and small gifts. I appreciate all your kind thoughts and encouraging words.

Teachers' Day, like Mother's or Father's Day has become very commercialised over the years. Entrepreneurs realise how lucrative it is to capitalise on these days and persuade you to buy gifts. While gifts sometimes do help you express your love and thanks in more tangible ways, do remember that the best and most sincere gifts can never be tagged with a price ie. love and respect.

I hope you will all see every day as a special day to celebrate with your parents and teachers. Being a student, the easiest way to please them right now is to do your part well and study hard! Sounds very cliche right?

But it's true lor!

It is good...it is good...

Love the colours...

More hand-made cards...

Plain but very sincere notes...

Yummy jellies and cookies!

And some necessities for my daily needs! Haha!

Leaving school now for the Teachers' Day Dinner at Sunset Way! Chin Huat Seafood!

Edit: Maths Questions!

A group of boys and girls went on a trip. Excluding Tom and Peter, the number of boys were two-third the number of girls. The girls was 1 more than the boys. When another 3 girls joined the group, what fraction of the children were girls?

A had 25% more than C. C had 60% more than B. During a game, A and B lost some marbles to C in the ratio 3:1. In the end, A and B had 780 and 480 marbles left respectively. How many had A at first?[/QUOTE]

Box A has 350 red beads and 550 white beads while Box B has 950 red beads and 350 white beads. Some beads (red and white) were transfered from B to A. As a result, the red bead in A is half the total amount of the beads in A and the number of red beads in B is three-quarter the total amount of beads in B. How many of each colour of beads are transfered.

I'm solving the 3rd one at the moment. Credits to -princ3ss- from Playpark Forums :D

Oh my this is bad bad bad. I miscalculated my English marks so now I bet that i am the lowest in class now with a score of 56.25!!!!!!!!!! Some more my target is high a which requires a minimum requirement of 86!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My target - 86
My score - 56
What i must get for compo - 40 (then divide 2)(impossible for me)

If i just aim for an A.....
My target - 75
My score - 56
what i must get for compo - 38 (then divide 2) (impossible for me)

If i get a coincidence....
My score - 56
My compo - 29(like in SA1, if i did not remember wrongly)(then divide 2)
I will end up with a lousy 70.5, which is obviously a B, and most probably the lowest in class.

This time, there is no escape for me, as well as my sealed fate..........

P.S.My Chinese marks change already- now i have a score of 89.5/100 if i am not wrong.

Since Ms Chan loves me so much, I shall share about how pigrets/piglets came about.
Once upon a time, Ms Chan was going through the Grammar thing which goes sing, sang, sung, ring, rang, rung that one right?
Okay.. then.. she went through the word SOW.
So it went sow, sowed, sown.
I pronounced it as 'sao' instead of the correct pronunciation 'soh'.
Then she said that there was another meaning to 'SOW' which is supposed to be pronounced as 'SAO'. It's a female pig.
You know before she told us its a female pig, Darren Lim was somehow going 'PIG PIG PIG PIG PIG' from his place to my face which is 2 to 3 metres(we didn't use to sit in this arrangement.
After this, he chuckled because it WAS RELATED to what he was teasing me and started calling sow sow sow sow sow~
So from then on, everyone enjoyed calling me 'sow'.
Then I will say female pigs are cute, and they are trying to call me cute because they love me <3 Well it's soooo true neways :D Everyone loves me including our dearest form teacher [is she dearest? ^_^]
I prefer the word pig anytime because it's cuter and you can end it with PIGLET, which is even cuter, but not at all cuter than me because I'm too cute to be true. However, I'm still true.
It's okay, I won't get offended by the teasings because... if you have been noticing my blog often...

Photobucket
Notice the pink underline? :D I change it in due time.

:] Okay.. I'm off!
Since Ms Chan loves me and my texts so much, I shall end off with her favourite phrase!
Bye piglets! Or sowlets.
Nah piglets is always cuter.
Bye fellow piglets.

Well done, Sze Ling! Your nonsense is utterly sensible. I knew you won't disappoint me.
I'm glad you're confident about your results and it is also a good thing to start working towards that Dream School.

And to those who haven't really thought about where you wish to be next year, I think there's no harm thinking about it now to motivate yourself. I started thinking about my ultimate Dream School since Primary 4! Influenced by too many SBC (then known as Singapore Broadcasting Corporation but now renamed as Mediacorp) drama series about iron-maiden ladies in powersuits then. Imagined myself marching down Shenton Way and stuff like that. It was the rage then amongst the ambitions of my gal friends. Childish it may seem, that 'ambition' kept me going and for almost a decade before it really did come true, by God's grace!

With that, we want to congratulate the 3 pupils who have succeeded in their DSA application:
1) Lloyd (School of the Arts)
2) Samuel (NUS High)
3) Caleb (Raffles / Hwa Chong - the ball's in your court!)

I rejoice with the 3 of you!

Now...I shall talk a little about today. I was not in the best of moods because many of you didn't fare well. Rather disappointed.

Still, there are things to be thankful for. Shawn was happily announcing that he's got 45/50 for his CL booklet A. I was pleasantly surprised. That was no mean feat for someone who speaks almost zero mandarin except during MT lessons. I have been harping on his poor MT grades in Term 1 and 2. I'm very glad he took my 'naggings' well and decided to study hard to shut me up. Shawn, I'm very happy for your achievement in CL but ... your Math is going down. Please do something about it SOON if you don't want me to nag at you.

Gordon did well for CL too. Another guy who doesn't speak Mandarin habitually.

How many in my class are effectively billingual?!

In the afternoon, I decided to take a break from my marking and went to the hall to cheer some sixsixers on in their NAPFA challenge. Gordon said he felt very honoured. Oh yeah, indeed I shall not deny!

Nishan passed his broad jump right before my very eyes. Wonderful. But I wonder whether the greater motivator was the packet of $$ which I placed on the rubber mat! That $$ was actually Kay Vin's, 'carefully' protected by a pathetic looking plastic bag because he was afraid his sweat will ruin all his precious notes, I guess. It's funny to see him clutching his bag of $$ like some charm that will enable him to break Usain Bolt's record or something like that...

At the end of the day, I would say everyone did well (though some struggled through with some help especially in inclined pull-up). It's encouraging to see some of you not giving up easily, trying to achieve better timing or scores. C'mon, bring that spirit of excellence back to your studies too!

And that's all for today. I shall carry on marking the Science paper now...

Good night, 'piglets'? That's what HuiPing always uses. But why?
How about 'goodbye porkchops'?

Yours truly

I think Clementi has A LOT OF SCHOOLS whether good or bad unlike other parts of Singapore. My view is soooo different from that of TsanSzeLing.
Anyway.. here's an interesting piece of news for you..

Hell Has No Fury but A Woman's Scorn...I Married my motherin-law too...

"I did not know that when I married my wife, I would also be getting a second ‘wife’, my mother-in-law, too."

I may sound like a joke, but the reality is no joke. This sad tale is the true story of one man’s plight at the hands of a scheming mother-daughter team that cause him half a decade of hardship.

As we know, the Women’s Charter has often been criticized for being biased against men, and over the years many people have written in to newspapers and other media to express their dissatisfaction. At the moment, Parliament is once again reviewing the charter to try to make it fairer towards men, while still protecting the rights of women.

This is the story of a man who has suffered much due to the "protection" afforded by the Women’s Charter, and how he overcame many seemingly insurmountable obstacles on the way. While this is a true story, the names and some of the crucial identifying details have been changed, so as to protect those involved, especially the children. Our intention is to enlighten and inform, and not to humiliate anyone.

***

Adrian Lim and Ivy Chien decided to get married after only three months together, registering their marriage in July 2000. They had been introduced by a marriage agency in December 1999.

At first, all was well. He thought that this gentle piano teacher would make a good wife and doted on her. She liked to go to expensive concerts, and he would pay for the good seats.

But the troubles started after their customary wedding ceremony (which was conducted at a swanky Orchard Road Hotel at her insistence) in January 2001, when they moved into their flat in the northern part of Singapore. Ivy and her mother, Madam Tan, started showing their true colours. Mdm Tan ordered Adrian to buy a queen-size bed, saying that her daughter was very small built, and would be pushed off a smaller bed during ***!

It went far beyond choosing the marital bed, for this meddling mother-in-law would control their entire *** life: determining when and HOW they were to have ***. This made Adrian so frustrated, he once said to her, "Do you want to join in on the fun?"

And if that wasn’t enough, even though it was a relatively new resale flat, Mdm Tan insisted that he replace the toilet bowl, which was in excellent condition, because of "germs."

Yes indeed, they were very superstitious. This was clearly seen as Ivy first moved in, when she deliberately stepped on his shoes to have mastery over her husband. And master him she did.

He became her slave, doing all the housework and obeying of her every whim. She said it was the Hainanese custom for husbands to take care of the wife. He would buy her breakfast every morning, and in return, all he got in return was accusations from his mother-in-law that he was ill-treating her daughter, feeding her two-dollar breakfasts like roti prata when she deserved eight-dollar meals: Adrian could not imagine what kind of breakfast would be so ridiculously expensive.

Within three months, Ivy started treating the flat like a hotel. She would leave the house at 10am and not come back until late at night. Adrian eventually discovered that she would go over to her mother’s condominium and spent all day there, virtually living there.

Worse, she would lock the master bedroom and not allow him in when she was gone, saying he might bring other women home and have *** with them. In fact, she would not even allow him to speak to his female collegues or even sales assistants in shops they patronized! Throughout the day, all he had was the change of clothes that she would throw on the floor outside the bedroom door, to last him until she came back.

Eventually, Ivy became pregnant, which only served to worsen the situation, rather than improve it.

When she was admitted to the hospital maternity ward, Ivy checked herself out of the C-class ward and into an A1-class ward, insisting that her husband pay for it. At that time, her husband, who is self-employed, was in great financial difficult and could only scrape enough money to afford a B-class ward at best, and that is after calling his sister and parents to loan money.

As a result, Ivy and Mdm Tan alienated the father of the newborn girl. They prevented him from holding or even seeing his daughter after she was born, calling him a cheapskate for not paying for the A-class ward.

Eventually, Adrian had enough of this treatment, and filed for divorce in 2002. But far from alleviating the situation, it only made it worse. This led to a few years of long drawn out battles, and at least fifteen court appearances. Adrian had no idea what he got himself into that day he decided to marry the Chien family!

THE CHIEN FAMILY ALBUM

Adrian Lim was not the first victim of Mdm Tan. In fact, her husband was also victimized.

Adrian had been told that he had abandoned their family and run off with another woman to Hainan. But the truth was that he was still in Singapore

She demanded all the same things that her daughter was now expecting, a life of luxury and a husband at her beck and call. He eventually died in a nursing home for the mentally unstable, having been driven made by his wife.

But all is not lost, for not all her children were corrupted. During the course of the divorce, no family members supported Ivy and Mdm Tan. In contrast, Adrian’s family rallied around him, attending court hearings to support him. Mdm Tan even had to force another daughter to attend court. Even then, she did not sit inside the courtroom, but waited outside, not wanted to hear all the nonsense her family was spouting in front of the judge. She is probably the only one in the family living a stable life in a happily married family, mostly because she had cut ties with her mother.

Mdm Tan was a Chinese teacher, and later head of department, in a neighborhood secondary school, and drove her colleagues and principal crazy.

Similarly, Ivy could not hold down a job. She has worked at the Yamaha, Kawai and Cristifori music schools, but always left after bad behaviour angered her boss. For example, she would take extra long lunch breaks, and cancel class at last minute with no explanation. In return, she would complain that the principal of the school would always assign her first-timers, who were harder to teach. Whether or not that was deliberate on the part of the principal, to get back at her, we do not know.

This atrocious behaviour was by no means unique, as throughout the course of the legal proceedings, his wife went through five lawyers, as they all progressively quit on her because of her abusive behaviour.

HOME SWEET HOME

Adrian regrets ever being bonded by this money-grubbing pair. He had seen the signs early. He remembers that when they first moved into the HDB flat, his mother-in-law rubbed her palms and had a look of glee in her eyes. She was probably already imagining getting her hands on the $360,000 flat.

True enough, after his wife moved back to the mother’s condo, the flat became a major battleground for them. Even though Adrian was the sole contributor towards the buying of the flat, she still demanded her share after having only lived there for less than three months.

Once, when he was not in, she came with a lorry to cart away movable items from the flat, even the washing machine. And what she could not move she sabotaged, like taking the heads of the kitchen stoves. She was even so petty as to take all the bed linens in the house, even the ones that were currently on the bed!

She later tried to force him to sell the flat at a loss so that they could split the price. She did this by claiming that since they were no longer married, it was illegal for him to own and occupy the flat. She was not only trying to rob him, but throw him out on the street as well.

Fortunately, Adrian had a few legitimate tricks up his sleeve. He appealed to then-Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong about his situation. He knew Mr Lee was very concerned over the lives of his citizens and takes all appeals seriously. As a result, upon his appointment as Prime Minister, Mr Lee announced that HDB flats could now be owned by single adults aged 35 and above. Adrian was pleased, as he could now legally keep his flat, which he paid for with his own hard earned money.

But the battle raged on both inside and outside the courtroom.

In fact, Ivy even figured out a way to use the law against him. She made anonymous calls to the Ministry of Environment alleging that he was breeding mosquitoes. They sent investigators down to his flat, and found the claims to be untrue. She also reported him to the Housing Development Board for operating an illegal tuition agency in his flat and making a nuisance. The HDB interviewed the neighbours, who all denied that Adrian was noisy and creating a disturbance. They also found that Adrian’s tutoring was small-scale and did not constitute a business.

She then lodged several police reports against him, as a result the police would raid the flat. And each time, she would only take something small like a pack of batteries.

In fact, she had planned this long before things turned sour. Soon after they were married, she had suggested that they purchase some "blue films" (pornographic shows) to watch together. Adrian knew it was illegal and did not want to, but she bought them anyway. So part of the point of the raids was in the hope of the police catching him with the illegal VCDs. But he had disposed of them by then.

It seemed like that system was against him. With each raid, she would go to a different Neighborhood Police Post or Centre (in different police Land Divisions), even ones outside the neighbourhood, to make a report, as the police would soon get wise to her tricks.

In frustration, Adrian appealed to the DPM and Home Affairs Minister Mr Wong Kan Seng, which successfully put a stop to that nonsense. Yet, all they were able to do to his wife was issue her stern warnings against filing false police reports.

But she was not done manipulating the system yet.

THE LOVE OF A FATHER

Throughout most of the process, Adrian was denied the right to see his own daughter. In fact, Ivy and Mdm Tan had gone so far as to take out a Personal Protection Order against him, under false charges, in order to prevent him from seeing his daughter.

He was disgusted by her behaviour. It did not show love towards the father or to the child. On the one hand, when she was 7-months pregnant Adrian had to dissuade her from aborting her baby because of her personal discomfort. On the other, she was using his child against him, as leverage to get him to pay for her 50-day stay in an A1-class ward for her delivery. And even after the child was born, she did not have any regard for the child at all, not even looking at her.

And to top it off, he finally found out why his wife was spending all her time at her mother’s condo: she has thalassemia major, a life-threatening disease, which required daily blood pumping. The pump was probably located at her mother’s place. But this was also a disease that she had a responsibility to declare for the sake of the child, and she never told him throughout their marriage; they had claimed that the surgical scars on her body was from liposuction. It is amazing that she survived this long, as most thalassemia major sufferers do not live past the age of 30. (They were married when she was 32, and he was 38.)

Ivy went to great lengths to prevent Adrian from seeing his daughter. She would repeatedly miss the visitation sessions, and give all sorts of excuses, including frivolous medical certificates saying that the child could not play with water (as if a family service centre has a pool). The issuing doctor was unaware that she was using the MCs to miss the court appointed meetings, and only found out later.

Even when she did show up, she created problems. She would arrive late and use abusive language against him. She even tried to claim in court that the taxi ride from Yishun to Sergangoon, where the centre was, took $24 and over an hour. But the judge was not fooled.

She even claimed that he hit her at the family service centre, but the staff there did not witness anything of the sort. She also claimed that while still in the hospital after the delivery, Adrian had hit her with the hospital phone. However, Adrian denied this, saying that if he had, she could have reported it to the nurses and doctors immediately, and he would have been arrested on the spot.

Ivy and Mdm Tan even made false reports alleging that Adrian violated the PPO against them. Mdm Tan testified in court that Adrian had repeatedly beat and pinched her within five minutes, with the bruises to show for it. However, the judge threw out the testimony for inconsistencies, and concluded that the injuries were self-inflicted. Mdm Tan was made to apologize publicly in court, however, by then Adrian had already spent 6-hours in lock-up.

Ivy even made a police report that Adrian had drugged her with a sweet and induced her into ***. Adrian could now even sue her in civil suit for the perjury but hesistated to do so in view of his young daughter though he did not get a chance to see her anymore. On another occasion, she claimed that he hired a bomoh to curse her.

In the end, as the divorce was settled, Adrian was resigned that he would never see his daughter, who is now seven years old, for a long time. He just hopes that when she grows up, and is old enough to understand what was happening, that maybe he could reestablish a relationship with her.

MONEY MATTERS

Ultimately, Adrian realized that all they were about was money. Not that he even had much in the first place. Although he did accumulate some wealth in his younger years, by the time he got married, he was in a financial crisis and only making a meagre income running his own business. In fact, when they were married, Ivy was making $3300, more than double his income, and she still made him pay for all the household expenses and give her an allowance!

During the divorce proceedings, she even told IRAS that he had a lot of hidden wealth that was undeclared, which of course was proven false.

She had asked for 70% of the value of the flat that she stayed in for only 2 months, as well as 70% of his CPF, which was largely accumulated before marriage. She even requested for $3700 in alimony! She made claims about her lack of income, which if it were true would be her own doing, and Adrian countered with a testimony of the father of two of her students who confirmed that not only did she work as a music teacher, she was not a very good one. The judge finally awarded her $50.

AFTERMATH

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, yet Adrian himself no longer has ill feelings against her, and wishes only to highlight this for society, and especially other men, to be aware of the problem.

"Although I have forgiven her, as I have accepted Christ as my Saviour… I feel it is not right [that] she and even her mother (i.e. my ex-mother-in-law) had even used the same strategy [against my now deceased father-in-law]…" Adrian told us via email.

He really feels that he has been victimized by abusive women, and also a society that protects women at the expense of men. He believes that they behaved this way they knew that as women they would not be serverely punished with jail time. That is why he is grateful that the Women’s Charter is being reviewed. In fact, in a letter published in the forum page of one of our local newspapers, he advocated instead that a Family Charter be set up, to protect families as a whole, rather than just one gender against another.

In the past, he has shared his views with Mr Chan Choo San, at the time Minister of State for Law, that it was unfair that all the judges hearing cases in Family Court related to husband-and-wife disputes were women, and would invariable find in favour of the wife. Since then, male judges have been introduced to Family Court, and Adrian is happy that he could play an instrumental role in protecting the rights of fathers and husbands against their abusive wives.

"When I went to court on the first day," Adrian told us, "I thought I was sure to lose. The Women’s Charter is a very powerful law. But instead, the judge saw right through them [Ivy and Mdm Tan] and ruled in my favour. I was overjoyed. It was on that day that I turned my life over to God and became a Christian, as I knew He was responsible for achieving this miracle.

"In fact, it started earlier that morning. It was raining heavily, and I was trying to get a taxi. I was supposed to appear in court at 10am, and it was already 9:15. I was desperate and called out to God. The amazing thing is that the moment I finished my prayer, a cab stopped right in front of me to discharge a passenger. I managed to get to court on time."

Since early this year, Adrian is happily remarried to a lady whom he met at church. He lives with her in the same flat with his elderly parents. He continues to run his business and is now financially stable again.

Adrian has survived a terrible ordeal, and he hopes that other men do not have to suffer his fate.In fact his father-in-law had passed away in 2005 in a mental nursing home after his wife( ie Adrian's ex mother-in-law ) used almost similar techniques to torment his husband and had passed her 'teachings' to her daughter. To avoid history from repeating ,Adrian has decided to reveal his true life story and to advise all those who intend to get married to be wary of abusive wives and troublesome mothers-in-law.
Ahahaha.. What are the examples in class?
*shhh*

O-kayyyyyyyyy. Ms Chan told me to "update this blog more often" and "nonsense" is also alright. :D I've got a fabulous idea to spam with the word 'nonsense' but that would be utterly nonsensical (thus doubly what Ms Chan asked of "nonsense") like I did in my blog with "rubbish" (Olivia's super-bright idea)..... Get the sense in whatever I've just written? (Nah, you don't, but I know you think I rock.)

Something that's been bugging me a lot lately: what (good) schools are there near Clementi (or the Commonwealth area near Ave 1) that have a cut-off range of about 250-260? I need to fill up the gap between Nanyang (270?) and MGS (240)..... Honest to bits, I've only got on mind....
- Nanyang Girls High
- Methodist Girls School
- Nan Hua High
- Fairfield Methodist Secondary School
Of course the last two only being contingency plans - for desperate and dire situations. Actually I was talked into FMSS by my father, who thought it was already "good enough" for me. But a cut-off of 230-240 is a little short of my goal (does 270 sound fine to you?) - okay, a lot short.

But I think to get 250-260 should be good enough. It just seems schools around here don't seem very... well, academically-good. Or just that I don't know anything about the schools around?
(I see a lot of New Town students hanging out at my block's void deck, talking loudly and smoking and blasting their handphones/MP3s... And Nan Hua students going home.)

Oh well. :\

Just in case you're wondering whether Ms Chan still remembers she partially owns a class blog, I came to assure you 'Yes, I have not forgotten.'

May be MIA these couple of days because I'm going to be real busy poring over exam papers and scrutinising through answers.

Am also very, very tired these days...dying to catch more zzz.

So pardon my disappearance off this place for a while.

And to our dear and most beloved Kim Yao, thank you for your 爱心indeed. But I must say you have no 良心 because you owe bulk of your success to Clarice Ang, yet you forgot to salute her too. She was the one who came and consult me with a part and unit question from her EXCLUSIVE homework book and you were just eavesdropping next to her, leeching on to whatever explanation I gave her. Right? Right? Right? Thank goodness you appease me by giving me the 爱心before I hook up your collar and ask you instead "WHY DIDN'T YOU CHECK WITH ME SINCE YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT THIS CONCEPT?!!"

Zap! I'm gone.

The eggs are a _____ food for natural _____ such as raccoons, seabirds, sharks, and large fishes. If it can survive to adulthood, spending as long as 10 to 15 years at sea, a turtle will return to breed at the same beach where it hatched.

This was what they gave us. Something to the extent. Can you solve the cloze without looking at the answers below?

Answers:
The Leatherback is the largest sea turtle. It can grow up to 6.5 feet (2 m) long and weigh 1,400 pounds (636 kg). The Leatherback gets its name from its shell, which is like a thick leathery skin, with the texture of hard rubber. It is a circumglobal species, meaning that it can range throughout almost all the oceans of the world. It nests on tropical beaches in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.

Once abundant throughout the world's oceans, all eight species of sea turtles are now threatened or endangered. Leatherback populations have plummeted in recent years. In the 1980s the worldwide population was estimated at nearly 100,000. Breeding populations are distinct, however, and many are highly endangered. On one important nesting beach in Mexico, there were 6,500 nests recorded in 1986, but only 50 by 1933.

Leatherbacks are unique among sea turtles in that their primary food is jellyfish. They also will eat fish, mollusks, squid, sea urchins, and other marine creatures. Adult Leatherbacks ply the seas alone, except on occasion gathering to feed in areas with large numbers of jellyfish. Sea turtles swim with grace and speed and have been clocked at an amazing 22 miles per hour. They are also remarkable among reptiles in that they can survive in cold waters; they have been reported as far north as Norway and south off the coasts of Chile and New Zealand.
This range is possible because Leatherbacks can keep their body temperature warmer than the water surrounding them, due to a thick, oily, fat layer under their skin and their ability to shunt (turn off) blood flow away from cold flippers. All other sea turtles are confined to the warmer regions of the world's oceans.

Leatherbacks require warm tropical beaches to incubate their eggs. After mating with a male just off shore, the female waits for nightfall to clamber up the beach, dig a shallow pit in the sand, and deposit her eggs. The female then buries the eggs with her hind flippers and compacts the sand with the weight of her body before crawling back to the sea.
Although a female may lay as many as 100 to 150 eggs at time, only a few will survive to grow to adulthood and breed. Life is perilous for a tiny hatching sea turtle. They are a favorite food for natural predators such as raccoons, seabirds, sharks, and large fishes. If it can survive to adulthood, spending as long as 10 to 15 years at sea, a turtle will return to breed at the same beach where it hatched.

Difficult right? I got loads of errors.....

Kim Yao, the unhappy one

P.S. Once again, I am reminding you all to bring a dictionary tomorrow.

Question posted on forums and forumite Astralflight solved it :D

When Mrs Lee was 40 years old, her son was twice her daughter's age. Mrs Lee will be twice her son's age when her daughter is 28 years old. How old will Mrs Lee be when her daughter is 20 years old?

Let us assume her daughter's age is a
Mrs Lee: 40 years old
Son: 2a years old
Daughter: a years old

Mrs Lee will be twice her son's age in (28-a) years time.
When her daughter is 28, her son will be [2a+(28-a)] years old.
Mrs Lee will be 40+(28-a) years old.

Mrs Lee: (68-a) years old
Son: [a+28] years old (2a-a=a)
Daughter: 28 years old

[68-a]=2(a+28)
[68-a]=2a+56
68=3a+56
3a=68-56=12
a=4

20-4=16
Mrs Lee's age=40+16=56//

If you don't understand, tell me fast~ & I can explain before the Maths Paper starts tomorrow :D

The world's favourite female pole volter, Elena Isinbaeva of Russia, makes a record, a whopping 5.05m! She missed twice and she was hiding under her huge towel, getting her piece of mind before the third one. She knew she had done it while still in the air. She screamed and did a backflip on the matress and said something into the camera once she had finished yelling and screaming. You rock, Elena.

Dear Caleb,

It's so kind of you to give me the proper treatment for 'bleeding' eyes, i.e. to dry the 'blood' and rest. You're wise enough to know the putting a plaster over my 'bleeding' eye only makes my condition worse.

Ok, back to your email on 'no sooner...than', I actually posted something on the blog. But I can't find it? Somebody please help...paste the link on the blog for Caleb.

In double conclusion again - Caleb REALLY cares for me (and my 'bleeding' eyes)!

Just now I was reading the English file then there was one passage that went.

Have you ever had a grazed knee before? Put a plaster, then it will prevent unwanted germs from going in and protect the wound until it recovers. Then, it won't need a plaster anymore.

And yes, getting such updates from you comforts me, a lot!
Of cos, there are more muggers in 6/6 who have been doing gd to themselves. Whoever you are, wherever you are, keep up the effort and watch your harvest grow!

And I saw your posts on Math questions...if you can help one another out (and in a way, helping thyself too), it'll be just GREAT. Sometimes, I'm just too busy to attend to every individual's queries. Appreciate your understanding here.

FOLKS!

Life is hard enough, why make it harder for older folks like me who didn't grow up with jibberish spelling? Sometimes, it can take me 1/3 time longer just to make out your message! Apparently your idea of 'short forms' is a vast difference from mine. To formal EL geeks like moi, 'short forms' mean contracting a longer spelling for convenience sake. Well, I can't give you many typed examples here. I can only write it out.

Oh pleeeeaase, have mercy......

How do you revise for english prelims? Sit in front of the computer and stare blankly at its screen waiting for people to update?
For me, this is not the case. i just find it convenient to post math qns online and get the ans within 1 hr. Thanks for the help.

3 circles,A,B,c, overlapping one another. The total area of B & C is 4/5 that of A. Given that 1/6 of A is shaded, 1/5 of B is shaded and 1/3 of C is shaded, find the ratio of the area of A to the area of B to the area of C.

don't know how to solve this one...

Btw, try not to trouble alistair_yong to much, if you cannot solve I'll go to Ms Chan for a detailed explanation or think harder.Anyway, I just spent 15 mins to solve xy's qn. and my answer was 60 sweets...Double confirm? This question appeared in the PSLE maths booklet but it seems that i got it wrong and did not do corrections......I know it is easy but i just want to confirm the answer.....

Every minute Machine A prints 12 pages more then Machine B. Machine A and B together print a total of 528 pages in 3 minutes. At this rate, how many pages does Machine B print in 1 minute?

Is the answer 82?

according to alistair it's 600 O_O

alistair_yong says (6:25 PM):
and is 600
alistair_yong says (6:25 PM):
ans*
alistair_yong says (6:25 PM):
first you must find how much he earn from each type of sweet, which will be $20 for w-h and $60 for z-b
alistair_yong says (6:26 PM):
because they say that he hearn thrice in z-b
alistair_yong says (6:26 PM):
earn*
alistair_yong says (6:27 PM):
then we know that 4w-h is 20cents more than 5z-b
alistair_yong says (6:27 PM):
so the units will be 4u:5u
alistair_yong says (6:28 PM):
we know there is 5u of z-b to 1u of w-h actually
alistair_yong says (6:28 PM):
so must multiply earnings from w-h to 4u
alistair_yong says (6:29 PM):
so $20*4=$80
alistair_yong says (6:29 PM):
then the difference will be $20 ($80-$60)
alistair_yong says (6:30 PM):
so how many 20cents are there in $20? there are 100 =|
alistair_yong says (6:30 PM):
so must multiply 4 and 5 by 100
alistair_yong says (6:31 PM):
so 400w-h=4u of w-h, and 500z-b=5u of z-b
alistair_yong says (6:31 PM):
then originally is 1u of w-h
alistair_yong says (6:31 PM):
so divide 400 by 4, which is 100
alistair_yong says (6:31 PM):
then add together
alistair_yong says (6:32 PM):
to total 600 (100+500)
alistair_yong says (6:32 PM):
so 600 sweets!
