Hi Hui Ping, I don't think I'm qualified to advise you on what assessment books to buy for Sec 1. For one, the sec sch syllabus have undergone lots of changes which I do not closely keep track of. But as far as Georg and EL are concerned, I don't think assessments books are needed. Read more and pay lots of attention in class!

If I didn't remember wrongly, I hardly buy assessment books when I was in secondary school. The 'so-called assessment books' I owned in secondary school and college were my good old faithful 'Cambridge ten-year series', and that's about it...

There are so many assessment books in the market now. I don't think there's a best and perfect one you can swear by. Being short of cash then, what I did was to browse through different books in the bookshop when I couldn't understand a particular concept taught in class and when my textbooks couldn't really enlighten me. That was basically how I got by and...I SURVIVED.

Hmm Ms Chan, are there any books(assessments) that are particularly good... or are there any books you recommend for Secondary 1? Cos it's a totally different syllabus so I don't know what I should be buying.

And erm.. can someone tell me how many topics are there in Sec1, and the importance? So I can concentrate on some subjects more.. Oh and tell me what are the topics also ;X

I need to buy assessment books soon. Aaah.

Sorry, Wei Ling, I didn't get to see your reply in time. Too late now.
I have been going back to school every single day for meetings and other work, hence no time to check in the mornings and afternoons.

During this holiday, please read more books and newspapers.

For those who did not do well for Mother Tongue, especially Chinese, please brush up the language by revising through your textbooks or other references again. If that is completed, try to get hold of a sec 1 Chinese text (borrowed or bought) and start learning first.

TO GET THE RESULT YOU NEVER GOT,
YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING YOU NEVER DID.

Don't play all day and find that you have accomplished nothing when school reopens next year.
Too late for regrets.

Don't forget that your new classmates from other schools might have done more preparation work to put themselves on an upper edge next year.

following ms chan's advice, i'm putting NYGH as my first choice.
followed by RV, SCGS, NJC, Crescent girls, Fuhua.
erm.. the last two schools are just fillers, and i hope i didn't waste any of my choices.
is it okay to take japanese as the third language?

I understand that many of you want to apply for NUS High.
However you must know the criteria they look out for is not the minimal as stated in their publicity postcard.

I copied the following info from the NUS High website:

Selection Criteria
Shortlisting of applicants will be solely based on the PSLE performance.
Applicants with aggregate score of 250 above with A* in both Math and Science are encouraged to apply.
Do take note that the aggregate range of 2007 PSLE pupils posted to 2008 secondary 1 is 262-277.

**If you still want to try for NUS, you need to register via the NUS High website. Theirs is a separate platform so you WILL NOT be able to find their school code in the yellow information booklet. PLEASE REMEMBER YOU STILL HAVE TO SUBMIT YOUR 6 CHOICES ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR NUS HIGH. Otherwise, ministry will post you to the nearest school near your house if NUS rejects your application.**

Wei Ling asked me whether I was dissappointed with her results. Well, although the highest aggregate score did not meet my expectation (I was aiming for 270), I must say that the class have done well in terms of quality passes.
I have challenged you to maintain last year's record of scoring only As and A-stars for EL, Math and Science. You have kept up to the challenge. In fact, you gave MORE STARS.
EL - 9 Stars, Math - 35 Stars, Science - 23 Stars...
Well done!
Now you have to choose your schools carefully...if you need help, I will be available from 9 to 11 am tomorrow morning. Look for me in the IT Lab.
Ms Chan

Labels:

I told Caleb to post the entry on HMT because I had forgotten to mention that in class today.

HMT Bonus Points
Do take note that the aggregate score reflected in your result slip does not include the HMT points. If your aggregate is above 250 and you are eligible to apply for a SAP (Special Assistance Plan) school, then you can add extra points (up to 3 points if HMT is a Distinction) to your aggregate score.

Importance of MT
By now, some of you would have realised the impact of your MT grade on your overall results. You have been advised since the beginning of the year to work hard on all your core subjects. Many people are complacent about Mother Tongue, thinking that it is not so important. How wrong can you be if you think this way. Please remember to work hard for MT in seccondary school. Not having the environment to speak Chinese at home is not a good excuse, please.

Dear everyone...now back in the quietness of my house after all the rah-rah this whole morn.

I'd like to congratulate those who have done well by your own standard. Some of you have really worked very hard for it, I'm sure. Celebrate and enjoy your sweet victory.

Some of you have done well in my opinion but you are not quite satisfied. Well, other than reminding you to count your blessings, I can't comment much if you belong to this group. However, I just hope that this will spur you to work even harder next year onwards so that you may achieve your personal goals.

To those who have not done well, I hope you will not be too discouraged. Do some reflection and make a fresh commitment for the coming year. You can still pull up your socks and prove yourself.

What's so saddening about graduating.. ;x

Don't you guys look forward to meeting new friends, new challenges and having a brand new environment in a new school?

Perhaps it may be sad to leave behind your classmates and go to secondary school.. I believe that's what most of us don't like. I was really sad in the beginning of the year 2008 as I knew that I would be leaving my classmates, so it probably wore off after some time. Will apply to most of you too. Maybe you may meet even better friends in secondary school? You will not know till next year.

Just give yourself some time lah people. It's a cliche saying but yeah, time heals all wounds..

Dear Evonne, you need not feel upset or panic when you do not see new post(s) on the blog. This class blog was initially set up for me to upload oral pics for preparation of the PSLE, remember? Then it went beyond this function and slightly more people posted their opinions, questions, answers, crappy + quirky + funny stuff on it. So I should say, the class blog has served more than its original purpose and that's already a bonus *applause*. The blog did live actively in its 'hey days' haha.
And well, I'm always prepared for the number of posts to dwindle because everyone will be very busy with their new life in sec sch. They may also have their own sec sch class blog to update too...so it's a NORMAL 'phee-nomenon', Evonne. Also, I've always emphasised that all novelty will die down, right? Look, I was at Raffles City yesterday and I don't see long queues outside that donut factory anymore! Who knows how long this fad will last? But some things will still make a come back...like Caleb's old retro pair of sunglass - hey, it's now a fashion statement! So, there may be a day when some members of 6/6 get sentimental and decide to revive the perhaps 'dormant' blog. Whatever it is, just let things be okay...haha...

Don't worry...I won't shut down this blog. Let it just hang around, aloof, in cyberspace for any ex-6/6 members to view as and when they feel like reminiscing good old days.

Pre-mature last words (in case I'm too busy on Thurs) - - Thank you for your past words of encouragement, unwavering support and for your patience in co-labouring with me for the sake of excellence. Will miss many of you.

Yours TRULY! :)

Secondly...

I'm pretty surprised no one cried today. Cos' other schools had people crying like crazy -_-" [according to forums]

I don't know why but maybe because I have been sad since the start of the year, didn't think too much of crying today. Perhaps I was already used to the fact that I will be leaving my classmates since the start of the year.

Last day on 20 Nov.

I don't mind crying on that day but NOT BECAUSE OF BAD RESULTS D; I think I screwed up several sections already.

Nevermind. Time for dinner.

I mean like they STILL remember though they ARE NOT in the same school. Well, some of the class blogs are lifeless though. So, I would like to ask each and everyone of you, to at least blog one a month, so as to show the 6/6 '08 CLASS SPIRIT!!!
Well, one more thing, would be okay to like gather at somewhere with Ms Chan on every 2-4 months? I mean like it would be fun...

Evonne~
I miss Class 6/6'08!
But I believe no matter which school we go, we STILL have the 6/6'08 CLASS SPIRIT!!!
BLOG more...

Edit:
Sze Ling, Can you place the the 6/6'08 logo on the blogskin?
Or you can just change to the old one, cause most of our classmates prefers that.

Please click play yourself.

friends4ever -

"Graduation" by Vitamin C?

And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same
But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don't have another day
Cause we're moving on and we can't slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And I keep thinking of that night in June
I didn't know much of love
But it came too soon
And there was me and you
And then we got real blue
Stay at home talking on the telephone
We would get so excited and we'd get so scared
Laughing at ourselves thinking life's not fair
And this is how it feels

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever

So if we get the big jobs
And we make the big money
When we look back now
Will our jokes still be funny?
Will we still remember everything we learned in school?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Can Heather find a job that won't interfere with her tan?
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
And this is how it feels

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever

La, la, la, la:
Yeah, yeah, yeah
La, la, la, la:
We will still be friends forever

Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there?
Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us 'round?
Will these memories fade when I leave this town
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever
As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever
As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever

TIME'S UP! You may think that I am going to write a composition but you SHOULD ignore this post if you are busy, tired or something... TIME'S UP!--> It is not a EXAM HALL situation but about life. You all should know, today is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL . It is saddening. Who knows if we will meet next year? I mean like, you cannot predict? Ok, than this is a SHORT message for everyone.

MESSAGE:
Friends, I know sometimes I am bossy, irritating, rude or whatever... Firstly, I would like to apologise if I ever offended you, or if I made you angry or what. I really hope that tomorrow, when it is officially the LAST day of primary school we could end everything with a HAPPY tune. Not with gloomy faces. This applies to everyone. I hope that everyone(that I offended), will forgive me, and treat me as your friend. I know there are some out there that may not but please it is the last day of school, I want to leave, with a SMILE. =) (If I can)
As we move on to the next part of our journey, please still remember this blog, and if able to, blog every single day, or every week? And also, can we like gather every two months? Friends, I also like to say that even if we are not able to meet every weekdays, like now, I still hope that we are friends forever. To all my fellow classmates, I wish each and one of you, a happy beginning in secondary 1.

(You know, I am going to cry, so I will not continue.)

To add on,
From the blog, you can also tell that people has not been blogging. Nowthat there is no one that is blogging, then, what about next year, will only Ms Chan be the one, or even NONE?

BEST WISHES!!!

2 days of recuperation after the Malacca trip and I feel much more rested now.
You've left your foot prints behind and taken back with you nothing but photoshots and memories (some bad memories from me for a few boys though).
Oh, and dear Ping, don't be too upset. Focus on the pleasant memories. Cheers!
Members of 'sixty-six', that trip is your last with your 'elementary school' classmates, have you realised that?
Do share some nice photos or videos on the blog if you've captured any. Captions are welcomed.
Remember to censor out those which are sensitive so that no one will be upset.
Right now I've no time to sort thru' my own pics and videos yet...still busy with some other work. Will do that during the school hols, probably.
Next week will be a busy week for all teachers and students (performers or prize winners) involved in Speech Day (14 Nov). I'll be one of those affected by rehearsals and at times, you may have to wait for me patiently in the hall while I get my business done. You can occupy yourself in the hall with a good book or healthy and undisruptive activities. Noisy activities will certainly be frowned upon. You who are sensible will know what to do.
Wear your PE tees if it's your PE day but still, your activity will be subjected to the availability of your teacher.
Last week of school officially...yay! or no yay? Haha...sentiments begin to set in.
C ya tm!

Dear 6/6ers,

Please bring the following on Monday for my safekeeping:

1) Passport
2) Malacca Trip Booklet

You can fill in your White Card with the details you know.

Destination in Malaysia: BAYVIEW HOTEL

Vehicle No: NOT TOLD YET...will only know on the actual day.

Some of you who have to take public transport to school may wish to seek help from classmates who live near you...If it's not too troublesome, ask whether their parents can pick you up on 6 Nov at a convenient point because you have to report school by 6 am and public transport may not be operational yet (unless you take a cab)

Help one another out okay...that should be the 6/6-spirit.

By the way, pack YOUR OWN bag EARLY.

You are old enough to do the packing.

Don't get your maid or parents or siblings to pack for you and be caught in a situation when you needed something and you do not know where it is tucked.

Calling home to ask the 'packers' where they kept your stuff doesn't reflect well on you.

Let me teach you all a song.

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Play in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then all the reindeer loved him
And they shouted out with glee
"Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history!"

I am practising hehehe

I will sing it to you muahaha.

5) A few pieces of plaster (in case you develop blisters or get cuts...doubt it'll happen)
6) Inhaler for asthmatic pupils
7) Camera (at your own risks)
8) Insect repellent (optional)
9) Cap (optional)
10) Comfortable walking shoes (must cover toes)
11) Track pants OR PE shorts

Try to contain all the essential items in a backpack (so that the load can be balanced out over two shoulders) and please TRAVEL LIGHT!

Only the first part of the hike is a little strenuous...the rest of the journey is fairly relaxing.

Remember not to do anything to provoke the monkeys lest you get attacked.
NEVER eat in front of them!

You can eat more this weekend and sweat it out on Monday.
C ya!
