I just went through the archives, and I found this post on dark matter Drima posted.
While I didn't bother to read through the post, I think that dark matter don't even exist!
Why?
1) Dark cannot be "matter", just like light cannot be matter. So dark matter is a self-contradicting term.
2) Dark does not exist in that it only DESCRIBES the absence of light. Apparently, whoever created "dark" (the word) must've been lazy to say "there is no light". While light exists, dark does not. :)

For the above reasons, I therefore conclude dark matter UNEXISTENT! :D

Let me add on to GWL's points since I am so bored!

1. no squashing on the bus
@Slime: Ya lor, you so fat already, squash liao, then whole bus unstable ah!

2. no stepping of others' feet on the bus and in the interchange
@Slime: Precisely! I just washed my shoes and then you have to destroy them.. IT was so clean before.. Thanks to your smelly and dirty shoe with dirty soles, they became dirty!

3. no blocking of way purposely on the bus
@Slime: You so fat liao! You block way how??? Cannot get out ar!!! You occupy two seats man!

4. no pressing of bells purposely and unnecessarily
@Slime: I did that back in K1/K2. Was childish then. Are you trying to signal that you are still as childish? :D

PINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG<3

Edit:

I'm not going to look forward to October 10.
Gosh.

Edit2: In December, there were torrential downpours and the forest adjacent to the pond experienced soil erosion. Large amounts of minerals and nutrients were washed into the pond.

May I ask, will those large amounts of minerals and nutrients benefit the floating plants, since they can use it to promote better growth, blocking the path of light for the fully submerged plants not allowing it to photosynthesize or will it affect the clarity of the water, not allowing the fully submerged plants to photosynthesize?

Or either way it's alright?

Edit3: Explain the difference between breathing and respiration.

Breathing refers to the mechanism that causes the exchange of gases between the organism and its enviroment, whereas respiration refers to the process that releases energy from food substances to all living cells.

Is this correct?

Edit4: A mangrove trees has many adaptations to enable its survival in harsh marshland enviroment.

a) List one adaptation of the mangrove tree and its functions.

Mangroves have aerial roots descending from the trunk and branches, providing a stable support system in the soft sediments along shorelines.

Is this correect?

I finally understand why children actually fall into pedophiles' traps.

On the 282 bus just now, I was standing beside this innocent little girl(probably primary 1 or 2) travelling on the bus alone, refusing to let me sit -_-. In front of me were two 6/1 girls, I think. One is Helen(sp?) and the other is her good friend. I encountered this old man(maybe I shan't call him pedophile. Let's call him OM) who came on board at the first stop. Looking at the innocent little girl, he pushed his way on the seat and sat with the little girl. Note here, he PUSHED her in.

As if that wasn't enough, he went on asking her about her address, family, and stuff. Excuse me lar, don't bully her can? I overheard the 6/1 person saying, "他好像在欺负她leh."(he looks like he's bullying the little girl leh) HOWEVER, the little girl smiled at him and told him everything he wanted to know. Wah lao!!!!!! I am so angry la! Then the seat in front of her became empty and the 6/1 person went to sit on it.. staring at the old man and monitoring the situation.. maybe? She had the guts to stare at the old man the whole time, without moving her eyeballs, wow!

As much as I wanted to, I couldn't tell the OM to 检讨一下 because I didn't have the guts to. And I got off at the 2nd stop. Now I regret my actions. If only I had stayed, since 282 makes a turn quite quickly anyway. I could actually build up my confidence and tell the OM to get lost. Ugh, I'm so disgusted.

Luckily that 2 people from 6/1 were still on the bus. The girl should have already gotten off.. maybe. I hope she didn't get into any sort of trouble. Wonder who's at fault. Should it be the girl's parents' fault since they did not educate her on this and did not even bring her home, or should it be the OM? I don't know for sure.

I don't despise 6/1 pupils.. but this incident also made me have an even better impression of them (:

AFTER THE SHADED PART IS CUT OUT, THE AREA OF THE UNSHADED PART OF THE RECTANGLE TO THAT OF THE SQUARE IS BECOMES 3:1. GIVEN THAT THE LENGTH OF THE SQUARE IS 6CM, FIND THE AREA OF THE SHADED PART.

Difference will remain the same.

6 x 6 = 36square cm

It is 18sq cm.

This question I'm not so sure because the question was a little unclear to me, and my area and perimeter can fail one. So if I'm wrong............. I'll disappear bb.

I got the words 'pretty face' from Avril Lavigne's Sk8er Boi. Pretty Face is depicted as a girl with many influencing friends who hate punks and skaters and is a girly person who did ballet. The word either means a girly person who tries to be nice and acts cute, is a jock, has lots of popular friends, etc. You know, typical popular, jock kid.

Thanks Pretty Face2 & Ms Chan ah.
And err.. what happens after fertilisation? Ms Chan once told us to check up on it. I memorised it but now I forgot ahhaha. & I forgot my source too.
The one about the ovary swelling and turning into a fruit with the ovules turning into seeds.
And umm.. if it is a seperate food chain (regarding Q3) then how come in the preliminary exam paper, when they said "There are 6 food chains ending with Fina," then it's 7? If those food chains are seperate, there should be a lot more than 10.. I think.

Apologies for the late reply.
Drima has promptly answered the questions well.
Here are my comments on Q3, 5, 6 and 7.

Q3 – I consider it as two separate food chains.

Q5 – When you increase your speed, the amount of KE will increase correspondingly. Hence if your speed is constant, KE released should also be constant. However, since the amount of CPE at the beginning is fixed, increasing speed will deplete the CPE much faster then keeping your speed constant.

Q6 – The boiling water evaporated to form steam (hot water vapour) which condensed on the cooler underside of the plate, forming the water droplets.

Q7 – Both are acceptable. You can say ‘anti-clockwise direction’ or ‘West to East direction’.

As for the Synthesis question, the second alternative answer is accepted.

Hope the above helps. Keep working hard!

1. Characteristic: pertaining to, constituting, or indicating the character or peculiar quality of a person or thing; typical; distinctive: Red and gold are the characteristic colors of autumn.

2. Oxygen? Decomposers need oxygen, for sure. The rate of decomposition depends on the availability of oxygen.

3. I think it is a different food chain, but my parents are argueing, so IDK.

4. We know from our own experience that humans sweat to increase cooling by evaporation. Dogs, in contrast, have few sweat glands, and they coolprimarily by panting - a very rapid, shallow breathing that increases evaporation from the upper respiratory tract. Some animals use a thirdmethod for increasing evaporation: They spread saliva over their fur and lick their limbs, thus achieving cooling by evaporation.

5. I think there is something wrong with your question. If you are running at a constant rate, then your kinetic energy cannot increase, because your speed is unchanged and your mass is the same (obviously) throughout the stairs. Unless you change your speed halfway through.

6. When the water evaporated, it had nowhere to escape and when it reached the cool surface of the plate, it condensed and formed water droplets.

7. Either.

8. Yes, both lead and pencil lead (graphite- which has carbon).

Few questions to ask:

1. What is the definition of characteristic?
2. In the process of decomposition, what does it take in? (Eg. Like how respiration requires O2)
3. In a food chain, from the start to the end is Grass -> Beetle -> Lizard -> Crow. So if we write down Grass -> Beetle -> Lizard, is it considered as a seperate food chain or is it wrong?
4. When a dog pants with its tongue exposed, is it to dissipate heat?
5. When you run down the stairs at a constant speed, does your kinetic energy remain unchanged or does it increase?
6. Photobucket
What is the model answer? In the assessment book, it stated steam and then it doesn't sound right.
7. When they ask 'In which direction does the Earth rotate?', is the answer supposed to be 'Anti-clockwise' or 'From the West to the East'?
8. Does lead conduct electricity or heat?

Thanks.

The questions are suppossed to be 'trick' questions, but they were so easy anyways. Especially the black box thing. Doesn't he know it's officially called a Flight Data Recorder and a Cockpit Voice Recorder. It's damn important in the case of a crash where everyone... DIES. Something to share from PPF. Credits to PageMel from Playpark Forums :D

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.
Photobucket

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'
Photobucket

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'
What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Photobucket

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

Invite others towards good with wisdom. Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets. When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile. Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.

Great men say, 'Life has to be an incessant process of repair and reconstruction, of discarding evil and developing goodness.... In the journey of life, if you want to travel without fear, you must have the ticket of a good conscience.'

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling...
And even more beautiful is, knowing that you are the reason behind it!!!

A mnemonic for remembering the three classes of levers is the word flex, where the letters f-l-e represent the fulcrum, the load, and the effort as being between the other two, in the first-class lever, the second-class lever, and the third-class lever respectively. (To relate the mnemonic to the above diagrams, note that: the "fulcrum" is represented by the triangle, the "effort" is denoted by the arrow with a hand symbol, and the "load" is the other arrow.) To remember what the different classes of levers look like, another mnemonic is "fre 123" In a 1st class lever the fulcrum is in the middle, 2nd class the resistance is in the middle, and 3rd class the effort is in the middle of it. Alternatively, the term 'Frogs lay eggs' can also be used in the similar manner. Some people remember the word 'elf', which sorts the classes from the third to first. Another way is "FREE Lever" Which means Fulcrum + Resistance + Effort Equals Lever.

Sk8er Grl

Labels:

7:55 PM

Lots of examples included:

The three classes of levers
There are three classes of levers (first, second, and third-class) which represent variations in the location of the fulcrum and the input and output forces.

First class lever

First-class levers
A first-class lever is a lever in which the fulcrum is located in between the input effort and the output load. In operation, a force is applied (by pulling or pushing) to a section of the bar, which causes the lever to swing about the fulcrum, overcoming the resistance force on the opposite side. The fulcrum may be at the center point of the lever as in a seesaw or at any point between the input and output. This supports the effort arm and the load.
Examples:
Beam engine although here the aim is just to change the direction in which the applied force acts, since the fulcrum is normally in the centre of the beam
Bicycle hand brakes
Can opener and bottle opener
Crowbar
Hammer, when pulling a nail with the hammer's claw
Hand trucks are L-shaped but works on the same principle on the wheel as a fulcrum
Oars, when used for moving or splashing water
Pliers (double lever)
Scissors (double lever)
Seesaw (also known as a teeter-totter)
Shoehorn
Spud bar (moving heavy objects)
Trebuchet, an upside down example of the above picture
Tweezers that are shaped like scissors work as double levers
Wheel and axle because the wheel's motions follows the fulcrum, load arm, and effort arm principle

Second class lever

Second-class levers
In a second class lever the input effort is located at one end of the bar and the fulcrum is located at the other end of the bar, opposite to the input, with the output load at a point between these two forces. Examples:
Crowbar
Dental elevator
Door
Nutcracker
Oars, when the boat is the resistance moving the same direction as the force and using water as the fulcrum
Paddle
Springboard (diving board)
Stapler
Wheelbarrow
Wrench

Third class lever

Third-class levers
It is to be noted that for this class of levers, the input effort is higher than the output load, which is different from the first-class and second-class levers. However, also notice that the input effort moves through a shorter distance than the load. Thus it still has its uses in making certain tasks easier to do. Third class levers use the effort in between the output load on one side and the input on the opposite end.
Examples:
Arm
Baseball bat
Boat paddle
Broom
Door
Fishing rod
Hockey stick
Mandible
Mousetrap
Nail clippers, the main body handle exerts the incoming force
Shovel
Sling
Spoon, when used for flinging food, which uses the index finger as the fulcrum, the thumb as the effort, and the load is the food
Tools, such as a hoe or scythe
Tweezers

Sigh. If only I studied earlier, right? But luckily, I still did only 3 books in the past, so my workload is still lightened.

I have 2 more books to complete corrections.
Ahh, I have to get going now.

Dark matter: material that is believed to make up (along with dark energy) more than 90% of the mass of the universe but is not readily visible because it neither emits nor reflects electromagnetic radiation, such as light or radio signals. Its existence would explain gravitational anomalies seen in the motion and distribution of galaxies. Dark matter can be detected only indirectly, e.g., through the bending of light rays from distant stars by its gravity.
Dark matter may consist of dust, planets, intergalactic gas formed of ordinary matter, or of MACHOs [Massive Astrophysical Compact Halo Objects], nonluminous bodies such as burned-out stars, black holes, and brown dwarfs; these are the so-called hot dark matter and would be dispersed uniformly throughout the universe. The discovery in 2001 of a large concentration of white dwarf stars in the halo surrounding the Milky Way indicates that these burned-out stars could represent as much as a third of the dark matter in the universe.
Other theories hold that it is made of elementary particles that played a key role in the formation of the universe, possibly the low-mass neutrino or theoretical particles called axions and WIMPs [Weakly Interacting Massive Particles]; these are the so-called cold dark matter and would be found in clumps throughout the universe. In 1996 a Japanese team at the Univ. of Tokyo led by Yasushi Ikebe reported on dark-matter clumping in the galactic cluster Fornax. Clumps were found in two distinct regions: around a massive galaxy in the center of the cluster and, in larger amounts, around the entire cluster. This suggests that the slower, cold dark matter might form the smaller clumps associated with the galaxy while the faster, hot dark matter might form the larger clumps associated with the galactic cluster.
Computer simulations of the formation of the universe favored the cold dark matter but tended to predict the formation of too many dwarf galaxies when compared to the observed universe. This led to the postulation of warm dark matter, which resolved the simulation problems. Unlike cold dark matter, which has mass but virtually no velocity or temperature, or hot dark matter, which has mass and is highly energetic, warm dark matter has mass and a low temperature corresponding to an extremely low velocity.

The Large Hadron Collider
Our understanding of the Universe is about to change...The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe. Two beams of subatomic particles called 'hadrons' – either protons or lead ions – will travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyse the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC.There are many theories as to what will result from these collisions, but what's for sure is that a brave new world of physics will emerge from the new accelerator, as knowledge in particle physics goes on to describe the workings of the Universe. For decades, the Standard Model of particle physics has served physicists well as a means of understanding the fundamental laws of Nature, but it does not tell the whole story. Only experimental data using the higher energies reached by the LHC can push knowledge forward, challenging those who seek confirmation of established knowledge, and those who dare to dream beyond the paradigm.

Why the LHC
A few unanswered questions...The LHC was built to help scientists to answer key unresolved questions in particle physics. The unprecedented energy it achieves may even reveal some unexpected results that no one has ever thought of!For the past few decades, physicists have been able to describe with increasing detail the fundamental particles that make up the Universe and the interactions between them. This understanding is encapsulated in the Standard Model of particle physics, but it contains gaps and cannot tell us the whole story. To fill in the missing knowledge requires experimental data, and the next big step to achieving this is with LHC.
Newton's unfinished business...
What is mass? What is the origin of mass? Why do tiny particles weigh the amount they do? Why do some particles have no mass at all? At present, there are no established answers to these questions. The most likely explanation may be found in the Higgs boson, a key undiscovered particle that is essential for the Standard Model to work. First hypothesised in 1964, it has yet to be observed. The ATLAS and CMS experiments will be actively searching for signs of this elusive particle.
An invisible problem...
What is 96% of the universe made of?Everything we see in the Universe, from an ant to a galaxy, is made up of ordinary particles. These are collectively referred to as matter, forming 4% of the Universe. Dark matter and dark energy are believed to make up the remaining proportion, but they are incredibly difficult to detect and study, other than through the gravitational forces they exert. Investigating the nature of dark matter and dark energy is one of the biggest challenges today in the fields of particle physics and cosmology. The ATLAS and CMS experiments will look for supersymmetric particles to test a likely hypothesis for the make-up of dark matter.
Nature's favouritism...
Why is there no more antimatter? We live in a world of matter – everything in the Universe, including ourselves, is made of matter. Antimatter is like a twin version of matter, but with opposite electric charge. At the birth of the Universe, equal amounts of matter and antimatter should have been produced in the Big Bang. But when matter and antimatter particles meet, they annihilate each other, transforming into energy. Somehow, a tiny fraction of matter must have survived to form the Universe we live in today, with hardly any antimatter left. Why does Nature appear to have this bias for matter over antimatter? The LHCb experiment will be looking for differences between matter and antimatter to help answer this question. Previous experiments have already observed a tiny behavioural difference, but what has been seen so far is not nearly enough to account for the apparent matter–antimatter imbalance in the Universe.
Secrets of the Big Bang
What was matter like within the first second of the Universe's life?Matter, from which everything in the Universe is made, is believed to have originated from a dense and hot cocktail of fundamental particles. Today, the ordinary matter of the Universe is made of atoms, which contain a nucleus composed of protons and neutrons, which in turn are made of quarks bound together by other particles called gluons. The bond is very strong, but in the very early Universe conditions would have been too hot and energetic for the gluons to hold the quarks together. Instead, it seems likely that during the first microseconds after the Big Bang the Universe would have contained a very hot and dense mixture of quarks and gluons called quark–gluon plasma. The ALICE experiment will use the LHC to recreate conditions similar to those just after the Big Bang, in particular to analyse the properties of the quark-gluon plasma.
Hidden worlds…
Do extra dimensions of space really exist?Einstein showed that the three dimensions of space are related to time. Subsequent theories propose that further hidden dimensions of space may exist; for example, string theory implies that there are additional spatial dimensions yet to be observed. These may become detectable at very high energies, so data from all the detectors will be carefully analysed to look for signs of extra dimensions.

By edges, they mean lines.
Edges being something like "the edge of the paper", which is the side and not the corner.
So it's 9 - 6 = 3.
As for the pyramid-prism question, I'm not sure...

Friday, September 19, 2008

Need some double checking here.
I was unsure about Page 19, Question 20 of MNQ so I decided to check it out since my visualisation was very poor...

This is the question.

20.
a) How many more faces does a square-based prism have than a square-based pyramid?
b) How many more edges does a triangular-based prism have than a triangular-based pyramid?

Answers provided in the answer sheet
a) 1
b) 3

This is what I found through Yahoo search --

For a)
Let's take the "square-based prism" as the rectangular one as there isn't a difference since a square and a rectangle doesn't make a difference in the figure.

Photobucket

So you see, both of them have 5 sides. So why is the answer 1 instead of 0?

For b)
Photobucket

However.. for b), they were asking, how many more edges does a triangular-based prism have than a triangular-based pyramid.

I was unsure about what are edges, once again. So I checked it out and I found out...

1. a line or border at which a surface terminates: Grass grew along the edges of the road. The paper had deckle edges.
2. a brink or verge: the edge of a cliff; the edge of disaster.
3. any of the narrow surfaces of a thin, flat object: a book with gilt edges.
4. a line at which two surfaces of a solid object meet: an edge of a box.

So I assumed, edges must be the corner. However.. when I checked that particular picture..

The black circles that I have drawn are the 'edges' of the figures.
Photobucket

And if we take 6 edges - 4 edges, shouldn't it be 2 edges instead of 3 edges?
Can someone clarify my doubts?

Ping

Edit:
Other questions coming up :(

Page 27 Question 13

On Clean and Green Day, a class of 40 pupils helped to carry bundles of old newspapers from the canteen to the storeroom. Each boy carried 3 stacks of newspapers and each girl carried 2 stacks. Altogether, the boys carried 30 more stacks than the girls. What is the ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls in the class?

I copied what Ms Chan told me to copy...

1) Assume all are boys
40 x 3 = 120 stacks
120 - 30 = 90 stacks (girls)

2) For every girl who comes, the boy has to give up 3 stacks(boys' loss) + 2 stacks(girls')

But now.. I'm stuck. The method is...

120 - 30 = 90
90 / (3+2) = 90 / 5
= 18
40 - 18 = 22
B:G
22:18
11:9//

Yeah I copied it all down. But can someone explain? I remember I was one of the annoying ones who couldn't understand after Ms Chan had explained time and time again. Just then, recess came and she stopped explaining, so I still don't understand. So for now, I can only do the algebra method >.> Can someone explain please?

I just don't get the part which goes 90 / 5. In my opinion, the actual number is not 90 what, so why you take 90 to divide?

And then, Page 29 Question 25. Anyone knows how to do? Ms Chan stopped explaining because she didn't know how to convey her message.

Mehmeh!

Ping

Edit2:

Page 56 Question 55.

A number has a remainder of 2 when divided by 6, a remainder of 3 when divided by 7, and a remainder of 4 when divided by 8. What is the smallest number that has this property?

Anyone knows how to do? I copied down the "finding LCM" method by Ms Chan, but I don't know how I derived at the answer, 164.

Can someone explain the methods please?

You know there are MANY phone scams recently right?
So just 3 minutes ago, I received a phone call from 'Withheld'.
I answered it.. and guess what? I expected it to be yet another phone scam what. I wanted to play around with the person :D Like how my brother made a fool of this person who said she was from the United China bank or whatever located in HONGKONG -_-"
This china lady(let's call her PhoneCaller a.k.a PC) said a long line of rubbish. I think it was about taking a survey lah.
Then PC asked me..

PC: 怎么称呼你呢? (How do I address you?)
Reply: 怎么称呼我? Ummm... 黄女士吧。(How to address me? Hmm, Miss Ng)
PC: 好吧,黄女士. 想请问你,你喜欢你周围的环境吗? (Okay, Miss Ng. Let me ask you, do you like your surroundings(LOL?)?)
Reply: 还好吧. (Okay I guess)
PC: 那如果你能有机会去别的国家, 你会选择去哪里呢? (So if you have a chance, which country would you choose to do to?)
Reply: 美国吧。(America :D //ps it's fake)
PC: Wah! 那么小的年纪就有那么大的愿望啊! 你听起来好像没过20岁啊。请问你几岁呢? (Wow, you are so young but you have such a big wish! You don't sound like you are over 20. How old are you?)
Reply: 十八岁而已... (I'm only 18) ROFFLES
PC: 那你现在还是学生吧? (So are you still studying now?)
Reply: 是啊! (Yes)
PC: 好吧, 我代表我的公司谢谢你。谢谢! 谢谢! 真是很感谢你! (Okay, in place of my company, I really want to thank you for your help! Thank you!)
Reply: 再见. (Bye.)

I was making faces beside the phone because of the lies I happily told :x Because I thought it was a phone scam! From the looks of it.. it doesn't appear to be so.. But never judge a book by its cover! If I start receiving mysterious messages in Chinese asking me to go America to receive my prize money...

However, I still look forward to future phone calls because I can practise my oral conversation! :D I practically lied through everything for my conversations >.>

Thanks, Huiping, for the sharing.
It's a timely reminder for every one of us to always cherish our loved ones.

One of my friend's mum passed away recently and her demise was unexpected.
In her grief, my friend was also glad that she had fulfilled her duty as a daughter good and well.
In her capacity, she has given her mum the love and respect that any Mother deserves in this world. Truly, her mum passed away a blessed lady.

In contrast, another of my friend still lives with the regret of not having spent enough time with her dad who also passed away suddenly.

We take our parents for granted because we thought they won't leave us so soon.
Don't let such complacency about their existence numb our conscience and emotions.
A life is like a flicker of flame that can be snuffed out easily.
Honour your parents by giving off your best in whatever you do.

Not the only one posting again.
Anyway, here's a short extract of a post from Playpark Forum :D Credits to Crack.

Cherish life while you still can.

While I was walking around in a Target store, when I saw a Cashier hand this little boy some money back.

The boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old.

The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.'

Then the little boy turned to the old woman next to him: ''Granny, are you sure I don't have enough money?''

The old lady replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.''

Then she asked him to stay there for just 5 minutes while she went to
look around. She left quickly.

The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand.

Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to.

'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas.

She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.'

I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus would bring it to her after all, and not to worry.

But he replied to me sadly. 'No, Santa Claus can't bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.'

His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.''

My heart nearly stopped.

The little boy looked up at me and said: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.'

Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so she won't forget me.'

'I love my mommy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.'

Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.

I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?''

'OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money.

The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!'

Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to
sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!''

'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.''

'My mommy loves white roses.'

A few minutes later, the old lady returned and I left with my basket.

I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started.

I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind.

Then I remembered a local news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl.

The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma.

Was this the family of the little boy?

Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the news paper that the young woman had passed away.

I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was laid to rest for relatives/friends to make last wishes before her burial.

She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest.

I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed for ever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine.

And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

Frequency of Occurrence -So how recent is recent? A few minutes? Hours? Days? Weeks? Months? The answer lies in the frequency of the event. Here are more examples, with varying degrees of frequency of occurrence.

1. I have eaten – We eat about 3 times a day. Hence, when I say, “I have eaten”, it means that I have eaten about an hour or two hours ago at most. We don’t say, “have eaten”, if we meant the last meal we had was yesterday.

2. He has gone to school - Going to school is a daily affair. Most of the time, school students go to school once a day. Hence, again, it is quite reasonable to say “has gone to school” if we meant it happened a few hours ago, but not yesterday.

3. She has received her salary – Most salaried employees receive their pay once or twice a month. In this case, we can say “has received her salary”, if we meant it happened a few days ago. Unlike the first two examples, the frequency of occurrence for this event is spread out in a month, and not over a day.

4. He has celebrated his birthday – This is a yearly affair. Hence, it is reasonable to say, “has celebrated his birthday”, if we meant it happened a few weeks ago.

5. Auntie Jen has given birth to a baby girl – Mothers don’t give birth every month. Most don’t give birth even every year. In this case, even if the event occurred a few months ago, we still can say, “has given birth”.

6. We have seen a new millennium – A millennium occurs every 1000 years. The last millennium was the year 2000, and the next will be the year 3000. We are now in the year 2008, and the next millennium will occur 992 years from now. As such, even though the last occurrence happened 8 years ago, we still can say, “We have seen a new millennium.”

err.....don't blame me if I'm wrong, right now I'm doing it free hand... I guess....8

you see it's just a matter of the difference in number of boy & girls. 18+20 becomes 20+18..... but 48 becomes 32 and so the number added must have been 16, the extra 16 which is the no. of sweets, but not pupil, so 16 / 2 and voila....well only for (a). laziness prevails.......

OMH

Edit : ...K....erm....you will see that (20-18=2) causes 8 if you look more carefully. You can also check backwards for the correct answer

a) how many more boys than girls were there in her class?
b) how many sweets did she have at first?

- Unusual species
- A large rainforest
- Plants and animals

Answers should be something like that lah. What you get? My answers are bolded.. but.. >.<

2. Precautions to take when meeting strangers
- Befriend them?
- Dunno
- Ask your parents to arrange a meeting with them

3. What does this passage...? (the last one)
- You should not make promises that you cannot keep
- You should be honourable and keep to your words

& yea, the frog powerpoint that Ms Chan showed us came out for Chinese LC last passage :D

Edit: Some things to share about The Amazing Race Asia 3 yesterday! :P

The first mission was to eat fried.. scorpions, bugs, cockroaches, frogs etc. They were all gross as they were all brown and black, eww! They placed some buckets on the floor for vomitting, and many of them vomitted. After finishing one big big plate of the gross stuff, they headed to the petrol station to wash some buses :P

It started raining and then everyone cheered because they did not have to bother spraying and spraying buckets and buckets of water at the bus =O

Then.. they went to Chiangmai where there was a detour. They could choose either to pound rice until the person there is happy or race with a go-kart for 8km. Disappointingly, the Singapore team decided to pound the rice first. After that, it was really tiring for them so they gave up and went to race. -.- They should have just carried on.. even though they were tired. They wasted a lot of time travelling from place to place.

So Mai & Oliver from Thailand won while Singapore team got 8th.. and cousins from India were eliminated on the first race. Sister & I were shocked because they have never eliminated people on the first race before :o

Okay that's all about TARA3 >.> Can't wait for next episode next Thursday, haha!

Hi people,

I have not been posting for a few days and there are so many post.

We, classmates, should not fight but help each other
when a person needs help!

Remember?
*A man who refuses to reflect is a RUINED man*

Thus, we should reflect and help others when they have difficulties.
*A friend in need is a friend indeed*

Thus, let bygones be bygones.

AND also,

for Listening Comprehension,
Remember this two phrase:
- More haste less speed
- No gain without pain

Thus, we should all aim FULL MARKS to
LET ms Chan smile until all the tooth(?) are seen!

haha... *JOKING*

Well,
Do not be nervous! (I think I will be nervous)

BYE!

LOL

2.
Me: Darren Fong, you better go see doctor! Later it's something bad, like tuberculosis!
Nishan: ACTION!
Priya: What? You're jealous that Darren Fong has tuberculosis?

LOL

3.
What do you think of Miley Cyrus?
Errrr, teen pop star who got into the news for flashing her bra? -donno-

LOL super funny(reminds me of hanna montanna)

4.
What do you think of the Jonas Brothers?
Nothing?

Jonas Brothers are very nice, especially Joe Jonas.

Can anyone solve this sum?
After 20 minutes in a cross-country race, Evan has run 5/8 of the route while Jesse has covered only 3/8 of the distance. Both run at a uniform average speed each and Jesse runs 60m/min slower than Evan.
(a) Find the total distance of the race. [2 marks]
(b) If Jesse wants to finish at the same time as Evan, by how much should he increase his averag speed for the remainder of the race? (Express answer in m/min) [3 marks]

Gee!
Fact #1
I don't like cows because I don't like beef and I can't stand their milk (unless it's artificialised with flavours)!

Fact#2
I like to draw snoopy for my art teacher in primary school because I don't have to colour. It's white! And if I'm in the mood for colouring, I'd draw woodstock because I only need yellow!

Fact #3
I don't really like Pastamania...oh by the way, the pasta in that Spaghetti store in IMM level 1 tastes better.

Fact #4
I'm not the one who like to find people in IMM, Marc's the one! Ask him yourself if you don't believe.

Fact #5
I don't like pigs unless they smell nice and clean!

Fact #6
Quite true lah...but there are definitely more!

Fact #7
YES! This is true...I love A-stars! The more the merrier!
Give them to me!

about the coughing of blood incident , there had been many stories of what had happened. This is the real one....

Contrary to qian qian's version(posted on her blog), i had a slight nosebleed just before i had a burning sensation in my throat. So i coughed and out came some phlegm(on my PAD) and since i had a nosebleed before that, some blood was on it and qian qian thought i had coughed out blood.

Well, at least i have an item that will remind me of this incident.

Thanks to our irritating pleas, Ms Chan has finally given in and Wei Ling Darren Lim and I have been given the Oh-So-Cute secret manual. Darren Lim has been cancelled because he should have deserved it in the first place. Wait! He shouldn't!
I guess Ms Chan called it secret manual because of the wrapping. So mysterious.. yet not mysterious.. Okay I'm starting to talk rubbish already.
From what I've gathered..

Ms Chan likes..
1. Cows
2. Snoopy
3. Pasta Mania
4. Finding people in IMM
5. Pigs
5. Kay Vin
6. A*s

Okay that was extremely random. I shall go on to do the secret manual now. Bye :D

May I ask, Question 80 of the Comprehension..

Is it an "open" question[of which you write your opinion] or you have to follow the passage?
Because it seems quite ambiguous to me.

What's with slime being green? It's transparent, ask any snail!! What's with insulting snails by reffering others to slime. Slime rightfully belongs to snails and slugs. I mean thething, not the person. Me and Ira are fed up to know that people are being compared to green. Green is nice! -as Ira says. I back her up on that thought. No more insulting slugs and snails and BTW, slime is not green (once again!)
And... pigs don't fly... maybe on planes, but that's not true flight. Unless you consider growing a pair of wings (all pigs out there). Guess what! There's a pig out there with three heads and an eye on each head. Eek!! Lol. Hi Ping... dun blame me for spreading the new... I didn't deform it.

well, apparently, DL is not caring enough to share the manual. however, dear ms chan is caring enough to share. ms chan, don't care about the 2 small cuts he had. i mean, if he is bothered by these 2 small cuts, he will not be able to survive in NS.
is he worried that when he climbs too high, he will fall very badly? well, don't worry. i fell. very badly. but i didn't give up.
so, i don't see any reason why he shouldn't share. what goes around, comes around (is it?)

Okay, recently people have been receiving link messages on MSN (well, basically messages with a link on them that we've never heard of before).

This is probably due to a virus on MSN, causing such messages to pop up when actually, we didn't send them. :3

Currently, I know that Huiping, Olivia, Medeline, Amirah, Wei Jie and I are sending such messages. >_>

Don't know how to solve it though. Could it be like, some sort of sponsor thing? owo

Monday, September 8, 2008

The class blog has been bloodied with the war of words between Huiping & Slime.
Aiyo, Slime, don't be too over-reactive. Take it as a mini sacrifice for the class - two tiny cuts for the sake of teaching the class about Thousand Eyes.

Obviously, that said, we don't owe you anything.
An issue as trivial as this gets the majority of your brain worked up - and all for what?
I can't imagine how you will tackle more major issues in secondary school....
I think we should all prepare ourselves to receive news that Slime was suspended in secondary school for lashing out at other people over a trivial matter. :3

(Oh, will be updating the homework stuff soon. ^_^)

Szeling :D

PS: I shallz not reply to any lashing out Slime serves regarding this post.
I am not as petty as you. (Lol, almost typed "pretty".)

I do remember Ms Chan asked me to share my reason why I wouldn't help the handicapped (Mdm Georgina Ng asked me whether I would help a blind man cross the road :x)

I said, "No because I have seen in the news that there are often fraud cases and I may be unlucky as to meet the fraud, so I would rather be safe than sorry and keep to myself." Actually, I didn't see it on the news. I saw them on chainmails and television dramas! :D I felt a bit stupid then but that was how I felt. If I say I would help the blind man cross the road, then I would have to cover it with a stupid lie that obviously isn't present in 90% of the people, much less me.

Then recently, not long ago(i think was a week back), a blind man was using his stick to hit the floor and was saying, "Hello hello, is anyone around? Can you help me cross the road?" I didn't want to utter a word because obviously, I didn't want to help. But my maid offered to and just then, another bus came by and this man who alighted came to help him cross the road. Luckily.. luckily.. it was not a fraud. Haha. But if it is, also not I help....
